There are so many tours of New York to take that it was hard to pick them. We settled on some of each using buses, subways, and feet (with and without guides(. Combining all three gave us a wonderful perspective of the city. We used CitySights Double Decker buses, the NYC subway and walking tours by Food on Foot and Uncle Sams Walking tours. We covered the city from Harlem down to Battery Park where Manhattan began. The guides on the bus were pretty much canned speeches but nevertheless interesting while the walking tour guides were much more intensive. I had hoped to take in a photography walking tour as well but couldnt fit it in to our schedule.
NY Skyride: Also don't forget New York's only virtual tour simulator. Skyride is one of the best ways to see the whole city without leaving your seat.

We toured the city on bicycle (Central Park Bicycle Rental), on foot (Uncle Sams Walking Tours) and by boat (Circle Line Cruises). But we couldn’t afford one of those 15 minute NYC helicopter tours (OMG-have you seen what it costs-yikes!). So next best thing we did was the New York SKYRIDE.
By buying Empire State Building tickets together with the Skyride we saved time and some money too. The guys on the street with the orange buttons and ID’s sell Combo tickets that were very worthwhile. I’m not a roller coaster fan but I enjoyed the ‘tour’ of the moving Skyride. Of course nothing beats the view from the Empire State Building Observation deck (just wish they had some guides up there!)
NY Skyride: Thank you Janice for your great review. And what an expert you are on NYC Sightseeing! We're glad you consider the city's only virtual tour simulator, NY Skyride a top attraction and an affordable and unique alternative to NYC Helicopter tours.

Like nostalgia? Then the New York Skyride is for you! This ‘state of the art’ ride is just that…except back in 1995.
HOWEVER…
It really is still a lot of fun providing visitors and native New Yorkers a ride akin to one of the NYC helicopter tours. It’s movin’ and shakin’ are fun and give an overall perspective to how New York was 15 years ago. I mean remember the old Yankee Stadium? Or the street hawkers with the watches in the pockets? How about a 1995 Chevy Caprice taxi! Still the Skyride is unique and for things to see in New York, especially with kids, I wouldn’t pass it up.
NY Skyride: Thank you for your feedback! When looking for fun things to do in New York, especially for families, our virtual tour simulator is a must experience.

I remember as a college kid coming to NYC on a New York Student Travel trip. We did a New York City bus tour (I think it was a company called Apple Tours, a double decker bus company now defunct). We also did a 2 hour cruise on the famous Circle Line boats on the Hudson River as well as one or two hours on their neighbor, the historic Intrepid Museum, a converted WWII aircraft carrier.
The trip was very memorable and I am going to repeat the trip with my girlfriend this summer. The only difference is I’m going to buy a NYC Pass. This is a super great deal where you can get over 100 things to do for one set price! I’ll tell you how great it is on another blog.
NY Skyride: New York student travel is always fun and easy with a New York City bus tour. I'm glad your bust trip and your visit to Circle Line Cruises and Intrepid Museum were so memorable for you. And yes! The NYC City Pass is a great way to see multiple NYC tourist attractions in one, two or seven days. Feel free to purchase your passes right here on our website and remember - start your day early. Our virtual tour simulator opens at 8AM and so does the Empire State Building observation deck. Have fun!

Taking a ride on the New York Skyride was almost a little too much. The Skyride takes you on a fictitious “tour” of NY a la Disney but not quite that quality. While I somewhat enjoyed it, seniors would be advised that if they are prone to motion sickness or have any sort of injury that could be aggravated, they may want to heed the warning.
Enjoyable as it is, as a senior, I think I would stick with a calmer New York City bus tour.
NY Skyride: Thank you for your feedback! A virtual tour simulator like the NY Skyride is great for some, but for others a calmer New York City bus tour may be even greater.

My comment here is simple: The Skyride is a little old and dated but I enjoyed it and the kids LOVED it. We came to have fun in the city and the Skyride was just that…fun. Not sophisticated by today’s technology, not 3D or IMAX, just a nice half hour presentation with a 15 minute moving ride .
For fun things to do in New York I would recommend it.
NY Skyride: We are New York's only virtual tour simulator and still one of the most popular NYC tourist attractions. Thank you for your appreciation....it is greatly received. The simulator we use at NY Skyride is the only one of its kind in the world. We take great pride in maintaining and operating it. We try to keep it running like new!
